LENT

Lent is a time of repentance, self-examination, reflection, and renewal in preparation for the coming of Easter, which represents Jesus’s resurrection and triumph over death. During this time we focus on our relationship with God and replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days  during which he endured temptation by Satan and prepared for his ministry. In our sacrifice, we abstain from something that we enjoy, do not eat meat on Fridays. We help others by volunteering.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday when ashes are placed on our foreheads to "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return".

Lent continues until Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday).

The color violet or purple marks penance and renewal.
